A Flying Machine and One Honda Hot-Shoe

CMC at Saddleback Park

Take one Flying Machine and put one Honda hot-shoe aboard it and tell me what you have...don't know? Well I'll tell you. It's got to be the hottest set up in CMC 125 Pro racing. Warren Reid.

Today Warren and his FMF prepped bike devastated the field of 33 riders. At the start of the first moto, Jim Domann (Miller Mano) grabbed the holeshot and hooked it for the first turn. Following Jim were T&M's riders, Ron Turner and Bruce McDougal. At the end of the first lap, Turner had bumped Domann arid McDougal was secure in the number, two slot. Exploding from mid-pack was Reid and his W.F.O. machine. By the end of the race, Reid had smoked every rider in the field. Following Warren for top points were McDougal, Mark Tyer (T&M) and Broc Glover (Yam).

Jim Domann again did his thing and got the holeshot in the second moto, only to surrender it to Bruce McDougal. McDougal was really dialing it on. Reid was in second place. As the laps were checked off Reid continued to move closer to T&M's flash. At the last of the last lap Warren and his fantactic Flying Machine went for the gold. Pro's taking home the money were Reid, McDougal and Glover.

Excitement was the name of the game for the 250 Pro race today. The names were big and the racing fast. Jeff Vidic was off the line first and being followed by last year's CMC point leader Val Tamietti and Yamaha's newest ace Broc Glover. Vidic had no trouble maintaining his lead on the other riders, even though he was without any back brakes. Tamietti experienced some mechanical problems when one of his shocks exploded and Nighten¬gale Mfg. John Smith (Suz) moved in on the fifth place slot.

In the second moto Elliot was having nothing to do with Vidic getting another holeshot. When the gate dropped, Elliot was full on the gas; Rubly, Smith, Vidic and Glover were in hot pursuit. Broc Glover got off pretty hard at the turn just before going into the gully, but was able to remount and get going again quicky. As the race time elapsed Elliot stayed in front with Vidic in second; John Smith had out man¬euvered Rubly to capture third. The top finishers were Elliot, Vidic and Smith.

The 500 Pros had but 19 riders, could be because of the 4-Stroke National Championship going on at Carlsbad today. In the second moto (I missed the first one) Val Tamietti (Mai) looked like a rocket as the race for the money got under way. Right on Tami's knobby were Luke Messer (Mai) and Bob Elliot (Suz). Elliot got around Tami for a short while only to have to give the lead back again. Crossing the finish line were Tami, Elliot, Messer and Stem.

500 Pro racing gained an¬other person to its ranks today when Peter Sosnas mechanic, Fritz Schlegal, garnered enough points to become one of the "big guys". In the past five Sundays, Fritz has finished first in all ten of his motos. Pretty impressive win record for someone who is so new to racing. Welcome, Fritz, and good riding.
